About Ryan

Ryan Dvorak is running for Mayor of South Bend to bring new leadership and innovative solutions to the City of South Bend.

Ryan is currently serving his fifth term as State Representative for Indiana’s 8th House District, which covers portions of South Bend and northern St. Joseph County.  He has served as Chairman of both the Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the Environmental Affairs Committee.

Ryan has been recognized across the state as the leading legislative expert on renewable energy policy, authoring groundbreaking legislation on net metering, renewable energy standards, and enforcing accountability for utility companies.  He has also passed new laws to keep drunk drivers off the roads, crack down on methamphetamine production, and grow jobs in our state – including the first “Buy Indiana” law.

Ryan has been a Michiana Forty Under 40 honoree, recognized by the Hoosier Chapter of the Sierra Club for Outstanding Achievement, and named Legislator of the Year by both the Indiana Aviation Association, and the Indiana Conservation Alliance.

A state leader in sustainable growth and development, Ryan continues to focus his efforts on growing South Bend as a modern, progressive city at the heart of our regional economy.

Ryan is also a practicing attorney with May Oberfell Lorber, where he helps local businesses – small and large – grow their companies here at home.

Prior to his election as State Representative, Ryan served as Senior Legislative Aide to Congressman Tim Roemer. There he developed legislative efforts to train our workforce, invest in science and technology, and enforce a fair system of international trade.  Ryan also worked with our military – traveling to bases across the country and meeting with NATO and EU leaders in Europe to ensure a strong national defense and protect American interests abroad.

Ryan received a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from the Indiana University Law School – Indianapolis.

Ryan and his wife, Angie, are the proud parents of a two year-old daughter, Caroline, and are expecting their second child in August. They live in South Bend’s North Shore Triangle Neighborhood.
